I arrived in Singapore in 2003 with JPMorgan, expecting a posting and finding a home instead. What I did not anticipate was how often the IIM connection would turn up along the way — an introduction that opened a door, a candid piece of advice, a familiar face in a room full of strangers. Quietly, and without much fuss, that is what this Association has been doing for twenty years.
It began in 2005, when alumni from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta and Lucknow decided that a shared classroom was reason enough to look after one another far from home. Lucknow, my own school, was one of those four — which makes standing here today a particular privilege. What started as PIIMA is now IIM Alumni Singapore: over 3,000 alumni from all 22 IIMs, the largest concentration of us anywhere outside India. That we have come this far is the work of those who held this office before me, and I am conscious of following Sanjeev Aiyer and Suresh Shankar, who between them turned a friendly network into a real institution.
Two moments this past year stay with me. The first was our IIMChat with Minister K. Shanmugam — an hour of genuine candour, the kind of conversation this community is uniquely able to convene. The second was Sangam 2025, and the extraordinary effort so many of you put into our migrant worker friends. One showed me our reach. The other showed me our character. I would like this term to be measured by both.
So my hope is straightforward: that the Association shows up in your life more than once or twice a year. Mentorship that connects the right two people at the right moment. Events worth clearing an evening for. A platform that makes it easy to find each other. Community work we can be proud of. And partnerships that deepen the corridor between the country that taught us and the country that took us in.
Getting there means changing how we work as much as what we do. Clearer ownership, better coordination, a handful of priorities we can actually measure — so that good intentions turn reliably into good events, real introductions and lasting relationships.
None of this happens from the top. Whether you are an alumnus, a volunteer, a partner, a mentor, a speaker or simply a friend of this community — come to something, bring an idea, offer an hour.
Yours Sincerely,
Sandeep Dhingra,
President, IIM Alumni Singapore

One symbol. Every IIM. Singapore.
In 2025 we refreshed our visual identity to match what the Association has become - a community of over 3,000 alumni from all 22 IIMs, rooted in India and at home in Singapore. The mark that came out of that exercise says both things at once.
The Symbol: 3 ideas, one form.
- The DNA circle, drawn in the colours of India, stands for the roots and heritage every one of us carries out of our IIM campuses.
- Singapore, our little red dot, and our place in the world.
- The bond between them is this community: a presence in Singapore that keeps growing.
It is a helix bent into a circle, which is about right.
We are shaped by where we came from and by the people we stand next to.
